Now is Father just Father or is he also Pride? It would make sense if he was. But Greed is trussed up above the rest of the them. Much of the gang, as Greed calls them, is there. Meanwhile, down in the sewer depths there's a gathering. I think this is a clever visual juxtaposition of the good and decent Armstrong with the evil and duplicitous Bradley. It's the eye opposite that of Bradley's covered eye. But more interesting to me is that Armstrong is wearing bandages over his head, including over his eye. Did Bradley learn that Izumi has also visited The Truth? That would be the best reason why Bradley's paying her any attention.Īrmstrong has a nice moment where he tries to tell the bros about Hughes. He has offered her a post as a state alchemist. Similar suspicion comes from Izumi but only facially and only after Bradley leaves. They go off to the next episode, but Ed admits some suspicion about why Bradley needed to be in the south at all. Al seems resigned to this for the time being. Al later relates his regained memory to Ed, but says he didn't learn anything about how to restore their bodies. But this event also triggers Al's memories about seeing The Truth and we get a lot of imagery through Al, including a fleeting meeting with his mother, and the disintegration of Al's former body. Al fails to protect Martel and feels all sorts of remorse. Envy? Sloth? Pride? Will have to look.ĭuring the battle between Greed and he who would be Wrath, Al has a nice scene where he tries to protect Martel from what Al thinks is Bradley dispatching lowly enemies. Logically, Gluttony's would be on the gut. A polite and symbolic place for the mark, no doubt. I'll have to look at the other marks and see if location is a motif. Whaaaaaaaaat? No I already predicted why, not why this event, but who Bradley really is.īradley, in fact, during the battle with Greed, loses his eyepatch and there is the mark! An interesting location. But there's more than that going on.īradley ends up in a battle with Greed, and they seem evenly matched. Then he learns that Bradley is strangely in the south.īradley leads Armstrong and others in the south in an attempt to rescue the bros. First Mustang walks with swagger through a hallway of gossiping wannabes. It's a finale that upsets readers because not only is this a little girl who's been turned into a chimera, this is the little girl readers have come to like. Arakawa spends just enough time with them to make them likable, and then she wraps up the arc with the gut punch ending. Nina is an adorable character, and to see her interact with Alphonse and Edward creates a bond with them. They are present throughout, allowing the reader to get to know them and care for them. The biggest reason for this chapter's memorability though is how it establishes Nina and Alexander. It all comes to a head at the reveal when the artwork takes on the tone of a horror story. She then pulls the rug out in a drastic cut to the next day when storm clouds are forming and there are more shadows than usual. For example, Edward getting jumped on by Alexander is a way for Arakawa to let readers' guards down by alleviating tension. Before Nina's transformation, the atmosphere is constantly filled with humor. On top of this, the drastic shift in tone braces the reader for the horrifying reveal.
